The most remote wildlife sanctuary in the Seychelles
Bird Island is a small remote coral cay found in the northernmost area of the Seychelles islands. It is well known for its conservation efforts and is a sanctuary to over a million nesting sooty terns amongst many other migratory species. On land the giant Aldabra land tortoises grace the landscape moving freely around the island.
The beaches are home to many nesting turtles including both the Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle. The Green Turtles are an endangered species laying their eggs year round. It is most common to see them between June and September. The Hawksbill turtles are sadly critically endangered so great care is taken to protect them and their eggs during their nesting period between October and January. You are likely to be treated to seeing a hatching if you stay January to March.
